A new face in the house
(6 August 2000)

I did promise some more
timely updates than waiting for several months. Flipside is of
course that there is not THAT much news, or at least not as
interesting as a wedding. This time barely two months have passed
since my last update, but I am using Lisas trip to Canberra
by spending some time behind the computer.
Those months have been the
heart of winter here, but frankly the fun out of telling everyone
how mild these winters are in Perth is disappearing. It
hasnt been much colder than 5 degrees at night and many
days the temperature still reaches 20. If it wasnt for the
amount of rain we had in July it would have been almost perfect.
 |
Last
winter for us, meant doing some work on the house and
this winter is no different. Still painting, as we never
do get ourselves psyched up for that. It took us several
weeks to do one small bedroom last year and then my dad
did the other room (and a wall in the living room) in the
space of a few days. All that was left was the main guest
room. And that is still all that is left, although the
room is bare, the walls are speck-filled and I have even
started with the first coat. To be continued
|
| Lisa obviously
has done some great things in the garden. She recklessly
pruned the roses (apparently it is good for them, but it
looks very sad) and made me climb our only tree to top
and prune it. To make up she planted tulips, irises and
other flowers and at the moment (because of the mild
conditions) we have the first flowers peeking out. |

Other
home-improvement were of the easier, beit more expensive
kind. We bought a new rug for in our living room. The
previous one was an IKEA one Lisa had bought for our rental
place and
was somewhat malformed. Unfortunately the new one is
malforming already so it may be the floor that is the
culprit (moist?). The new rug is slightly smaller, but
definitely of better design: blue with beach but the
light makes it lighter or darker depending on how you
move.

| Also we bought a
dresser (chiffonier in official terms), we needed this to
store some of our wedding gifts (which have lived in
their boxes ever since April). We didnt want to go
for a full hutch (for the un-initiated: that is the
cupboard on top of the dresser) as this becomes rather
overpowering on a room. Instead we want to have a mirror
above it, but that still needs to be purchased (we need
to go on a mirror/art-run one day to get some
wall-dressings). The dresser is 3-doors & drawers
wide and offers a home for much of our new/good
dinnerware. |

The
last new face is Lisa. Well not new, but .. improved ??
For years she has known that her eyesight wasnt
exactly 20/20 but vanity made her persevere without
glasses. Now that were married she decided that for
reading and (night)driving glasses were in order. So now
I can see Lisa in a different way. As almost required in
this country does she have prescription sunglasses as
well, but that difference isnt as remarkable (most
people wear sunnies all summer anyway). |
So with the glasses,
dresser, rug, pruned garden and a room in construction are we
reshaping (embellishing) the face of our house, ready for new
guests or family-expansions. Speaking of that .. no news about
our planned kitten yet (had you going there !!:-), but according
to the breeders schedule that should be another couple of months
(October/November). Just in time for my next update.
