Joshua Stewart Dorst

School and Education

As we had decided to keep Lisa's work, Joshua was 'pushed' of to childcare at the age of 4 months, initially for 3 days a week. Fortunately we have managed to find a great childcare and he loved it as well, all the interaction with other kids.

At this childcare we found another couple with two boys in the same age-group as ours. They became friends and it was economical for Lisa and Kelly to share their part-time work once the boys started school. So Joshua went to Orana Catholic Primary School, first 2 days a week to kindy (2005), then preprimary all week (including before- and after-school care) and now Year 1.

He enjoys the learning and seems to be great mates with most kids, including several older ones (mostly through before\after school care).

During the holidays (depending on whether we can take time off) he goes to vacation-care, which is sort of an extended after-school-care where they go on excursions etc.

The early years

Joshua was born at 11:48 on Thursday the 8th of March 2001, weighing 7 pounds, 1 ounce (3.204 kg), via a caesarean delivery at South Perth Community Hospital. To 'honour' Lisa's family name have we given that to him as a middle name: Joshua Stewart Dorst.

Despite all our 'experience' with nieces and nephews were we not prepared how all-encompassing having a little baby is. Fortunately my mum & dad were here to help witness the first smiles.

We got him travelling pretty soon as at 3 months we went for a short visit to Sydney. Surprisingly he was no trouble in the plane and was quite happy to be pushed from here-to there. Later he went with us to the Netherlands (at age 1½) and again with his brother.
