Lisa

I have always travelled throughout the State of Western Australia as part of my job, so perhaps that’s where I get my 'world'spirit from. Simon and I actually first met while we were both travelling on the West Coast of the USA in 1991. I never realised what a fantastic place I lived in until I visited other parts of the world.

A city girl originally, I have lived and worked in a number of locations throughout Western Australia. This has included Karratha in the Pilbara, Darkan, Mt Barker in the South West of the State and Goomalling in the wheat-belt (Goomalling is derived from an aboriginal word Kooma and literally translates to home of the possum). Since 1995 I have been based at South Perth.

I enjoy socialising with friends, eating out, diving, gardening, outdoor activities and playing hockey.

Wedding

We got married on the 8th April 2000: warm and beautiful, after the long range forecast had been all gloom and doom for the proceeding 10 days or so.

By 12.45 I was dressed and the photographer had arrived. Amidst all the preparations my father and mother were getting very concerned as Simon had not delivered the hire car yet. I had remained totally calm and relaxed to this point but with two stressed out parents panicky about the missing hire car it became difficult to remain composed. Just when I was about to totally drop my bundle a car arrived in the driveway. Lisa’s Mum went out to investigate. She was aghast to find the car wasn’t the right colour (we wanted a silver Mondeo to match their own car) and also the wrong type: It was a stretched limousine, rather than a hire-car. The driver replied, "well at least it is a Ford Ma'am". Simon had arranged the Limousine as a surprise for Lisa and nobody was briefed about it except Julie who had kept the whole thing secret so that she didn’t spoil the surprise!

We got married in the Church of St.Mary the virgin in South Perth and left the Church as Mr and Mrs Dorst. Then it was off to Sir James Mitchell Park on South Perth Foreshore and the constitution centre (a renovated ‘old’ building that would give nicely contrasting photos with the ones from the park) for the photos.

Arriving back at the Pagoda for the reception. The evening commenced with a speech from Lisa’s father Clem welcoming the guests. Paul then spoke about Simon’s childhood, after going to considerable effort to obtain information from the Netherlands about Simons past thirty years. Kathy spoke about some of her and Lisa shared moments in the past twelve years, which will hopefully never be disclosed again. After the Main course Simon's father gave a beautiful speech in English, which brought tears to everybody eyes. Simon's father only speaks a little English and with the assistance of Simon's mother and his niece Eva he had prepared some words especially for the occasion. This was really special as it is hard enough to speak in front of around 90 people without having to do it in an unfamiliar language. This is something we will remember forever.

Then of course Lisa had to say a few words. She thought it was very important to acknowledge those absent family and friends. Nicki, her brothers wife who had given birth to twins on the 7th April and Simons Sisters Renée and Anke and families in the Netherlands. Simon wanted the final say. Lisa was expecting something totalling different, as he had been teasing her for months to disclose certain events. However, his words were beautiful and wildly romantic.

Three weeks later, on Friday 28 April 2000, during our honeymoon in the Netherlands, we had a second party. This to allow all of Simon's friends & family to also share in our joy. It was strange to get dressed up again (Simon had hired a suit from his dad and tie from his friend).
